Do It Anyway

Many of my friends turned Christian after coming to the US, I am not one of them but I understand where they come from. Being religious is one thing; having faith is another. They may all have different stories to tell but many started to believe in God because they need more support in life, they need something stronger and bigger than themselves. They need faith, therefore God.

I was lucky enough to have attended the 50 Outstanding Asian American Awards ceremony last year, which was a random opportunity and an amazing experience for me, and I am thankful for my dear friend who introduced me to that event. Today I met another friend who chose to believe in God because he felt he needed the faith, and this reminded me of Michael Chen (CEO of GE’s MCE)’s keynote speech at the Awards ceremony, quoted from Mother Teresa:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

~~~I love these lines so much I put them down for my own records back then.
I am not religious and probably will never be, but they touched my heart anyway.  In this busy world today and with an increasingly demanding job and sometimes demanding friends as well, I want to remind myself these lines again. The days are long but the years are short. Be happy for what I already have, worry less, and hope for the best.
And~~~
People will probably not notice and they may never will.
Write anyway.
    Right, there is a balance in the world. Whatever you do, it comes back. Often times I am surprised how helpful people are where I least expect. If you write enough of quality stuff, people will notice.
